Carolers Trio (2014)
A Three movement work for acapella SATB voices. Sheet music available.
Caroler’s Trio is a three movement piece with a Christmas theme. The three movements, Carol, Hymn, and Dance, are inspired by more traditional Christmas music and the different parts of the season associated with them. Carol is inspired by the short yet joyful songs that a small group of carolers might sing and are often heard throughout the Christmas season. For many the Christmas season is a deeply religious time and the second movement, Hymn, reflects this by relating the oft quoted scriptural account of a new star appearing, shepherds watching in the fields, and the angels praising the coming of Christ. Dance, the final movement is meant to reflect the winter season in which many celebrate the Christmas holiday. The lyrics describe snow and stars and how their beauty can recall memories and inspire peace, the happy things often associated with the Christmas season. As this short trio of songs is performed, may those who hear feel the spirit of the Christmas season!

Finding His Light is an original work for tenor solo, choir, and piano accompaniment. After finding a melody I liked I found that I couldn’t get it out of my head. Because of that I decided to write words to match the melody and still I felt I wasn’t finished. Next I added a choir part and after some tweaking ended up with the final version. The song is about a person who, after finding themselves in spiritual darkness, turns to God in prayer for help. The person receives a glorious answer and is lifted from the darkness and filled with the desire to share the light they have received. Premiered by the Laramie, WY LDS Institute Choir in December of 2013.
